Abilene Zoo

Abilene, Texas

Park, Science, Zoo

Since its founding in 1966, the Abilene Zoo has stood as a place of learning an adventure. Open daily year-round, the lushly landscaped 16-acre park is home to more than 1,000 animals of more than 270 species. The new Giraffe Safari area includes a slate of African species, including the zoo's mascots: a herd of giraffe, which guests can hand-feed from a large raised deck. The Abilene Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, maintaining that level of excellence for more than 25 years.

The Air Zoo is a highly charged, multi-sensory atmosphere that goes beyond anything you've ever seen. It's like no place else on Earth. Voted the "Best Place to Take Out-of-Towners" and "Best Place to Spend a Day with Your Family", the Air Zoo features many amusement park-style rides, full-motion flight simulators, 4-D Missions Theater, Magic Planet, Space Ball and a Zero Gravity Experience, as well as historical exhibits and educational activities.

Park, Zoo

No longer able to survive in their normal habitat, these ambassadors from the wild need care and protection. In return they provide zoo visitors with a glimpse of the wonders of nature. Professional Zoo Keepers (Donna McDowell and Alisha Costa) provide daily care and management of the animals. Individuals are welcome to enroll in the volunteer program to assist with exhibit cleaning, diet preparation, landscaping maintenance and zoo improvement projects. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and may sign up at the Parks and Community Services Office located at 690 West 16th Street in Merced.

Children's, Nature Centers, Science, Zoo

The Austin Nature and Science Center (ANSC) is Central Texas' only living nature and science museum. The ANSC is situated on an eighty acre preserve containing woodlands (80%), and a meadow area (20%). Two well-fed ponds, a major lake, a wet weather creek, and geological escarpments are some of the features on our site. This diverse location gives us a natural abundance of vegetation and wildlife. The collections of the ANSC consist of Live Animals, Non-Living Specimens, Library, and Native Flora and Fauna. Rather than being stored in cabinets, all of these collections contribute toward fulfilling our mission, of providing hands-on educational experiences in our interactive programs, exhibits and nature trails, as mandated by our Statement of Purpose.

2025 American Alliance of Museums (AAM) ANNUAL MEETING & MUSEUMEXPO

Los Angeles Convention Center

Los Angeles, California

AAM 2025 will focus on the theme, Museums & Trust.

Museums have long inspired high levels of public trust, surpassing news outlets, government organizations, researchers and scientists, corporations, and social media platforms. This consistent finding underscores our institutions’ unique position in society as stewards of knowledge, culture, science, and history—areas where credibility and reliability are paramount

In an era marked by mistrust and misinformation, museums have a rare ability to counterbalance the proliferation of false narratives and polarized perspectives. Using our trusted position, we can cultivate a more healthy, empathetic, and informed society.

But to do so, we must maintain our credibility proactively, embracing thoughtful, transparent, and collaborative practices that will defend against influences like bias, resource challenges, abuse of power, and social injustice

An Incredible MuseumExpo

AAM is again partnering this year with the Museum Store Association to host an incredible combined expo hall. Find the most innovative services, products, and solutions in the museum field. With 350 exhibitors, you are bound to find the right partner for your museum’s current challenges and opportunities.

2025 Am Assoc for State and Local History Annual Conference

TBD

Cincinnati, Ohio

The 2025 AASLH Annual Conference, in partnership with Ohio Local History Alliance, will take place as the history field makes the final preparations to kickoff off the 250th commemoration of the founding of the United States.

The 2025 conference theme, inspired by AASLH’s Making History at 250: The Field Guide for Semiquincentennial, is an opportunity to broadly explore one of the guide’s themes, The American Experiment. For many in the American colonies in 1776, independence from Britain represented a “leap into the dark” into an unknown future

We are excited for you to join us in Cincinnati as we encourage discussion about our democracy and civic institutions and how they can help strengthen understanding, inspire action, and reveal ways that all of us can participate in and shape the ongoing American experiment.

For more information, please call 615-320-3203 or email info@aaslh.org.
