Welcome to the City of Alexandria's Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities website. The Department offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities for all ages, including afterschool programs for youth, sports opportunities, senior events, and our popular ethnic festivals. Our parks and trails network provides countless ways to enjoy Alexandria outdoors. Look for information on the George Washington and St. Patrick's Day parades coming this winter and don't forget to join us for some exercise at one of our indoor facilities.
The long-awaited renovation of the Jerome 'Buddie' Ford Nature Center is scheduled to take place this year. This project will take several months to complete, during which time the Nature Center will be closed. However, the Naturalist staff will continue to conduct weekend hikes and other outdoor activities at various locations throughout the City. Additionally, schools, recreation centers and other groups may request Naturalists to visit their facilities for nature programs. The planned renovation will result in a much larger facility with new and improved programming and exhibits. We apologize for any inconvenience during the renovation.
The Department of Recreation Parks and Cultural Activities Mission is to be a vibrant, safe and attractive city of opportunity through the development of effective and efficient recreation programs, facilities and parks for all citizens and residents to enjoy
