History

Grew out of the Elissa Project, a 1877 sailing ship, that opened in 1982. This project expanded to become the Texas Seaport Museum in 1991.

Artifact Collections

Other than the Elissa, very small collection of maritime artifacts, 1880-1920 (slightly more than 100 objects).

Research Collections

Some photos and documents; available for research. Extensive photos and drawings of Elissa restoration.

Programs

Exhibitions, teacher workshops, docent program, gallery tours, educators guide, lectures, and an overnight program for children, "It's a Sailor's Life"; available for tour/loan. Quarterly family day program, "Hand, Reef, and Steer" traveling trunk program. Sail training program involving ELISSA; "Outpost 001" communities in school program."Maritime Mystery" marine archeology program.
