1st Cavalry Division Museum

Description

The 1st Cavalry Division Museum at the intersection of 56th and 761st Tank Battalion Avenue in Building 2218 on Fort Hood.

To get to the museum from Interstate 35, travel West on Expressway 190 towards Killeen. Once in Killeen, continue traveling on 190 exit Ft. Hood main gate. Before the gate stop by the Visitor Center on the right hand side so you can receive a pass to the Museum. Proof of insurance and ID Card are required for the visitor pass. The Visitor Center will provide a map to the Museum.

Outdoor Exhibits; The outdoor display at the museum features a wide selection of historical equipment. Whether it's an armored vehicle or aircraft, it has touched the division in a unique way and has added to the historical significance of the First Team.

All research request are conducted by volunteers. Research request are completed in the order they are received. Because the museum does not have a dedicated research request staff, the complexity of your request may prolong the completion of your request.

Programs
Out Reach Programs

The Museum offers a number of programs for Active duty and the public personnel. Programs for active duty included Threat weapon and vehicle training, and Iraqi/Arab Culture Awareness Training. Historical programs included Alamo Siege and Battle Site Staff Ride, Texas Frontier Forts Tour, 1CD in Korea: A Historical Briefing, and the History of the 1st Cavalry Division. These programs are available to Active duty military training groups for free. There is a user fee for other groups.

Living History programs

The museum's public programs included Living History programs on the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War II and Vietnam. The Museum's Living History interpreters will provide an overview of the life and times of soldiers during these time periods. Staff dressed in reproduction period uniforms will describe the uniforms, equipment and weapons used by 1st Cavalry Divsion troops, . These demonstrations will detail the daily life of the soldier, including food craft, drill and tactics, recreation and medical care. In addition, if a female interpreter if available, she will discuss the role of women during these wars; in the home front and in the field.

New

Lewis and Clark Traveling Trunk. The Museum offers to local school districts a traveling trunk telling the story of the Corps of Discovery. The trunk comer complete with replica materials used and found during the expedition. This program is available to schools and other groups from 5th grade and up. There will be a user fee attached for programs conducted 50 miles or more from Fort Hood, Texas.

All research request are conducted by volunteers. Research request are completed in the order they are received. Because the museum does not have a dedicated research request staff, the complexity of your request may prolong the completion of your request.

The 1CD Museum does not collect information on individuals unless they were of historic significance to the Division (Division CG or CSM, Medal of Honor awardees, etc). We do not maintain unit or personnel rosters. If for any reason we cannot complete your request we will notify you with the contact information you provided us.

Services
Guided Tour

Museum Tours Museum Orientation: All museum visitors receive a briefing from a First Team soldier when they enter the building. From there, unsupervised viewing of the indoor and outdoor exhibits is authorized. For an era to era guided tour, groups of more than 15 are encouraged to coordinate with the museum.

Treasure Hunt

Available at the front desk, the museum has developed a Treasure Hunt game for young visitors. They are given a picture sheet and asked to find objects depicted on the sheet.
