Meteor Crater & Barringer Space Museum
Winslow, Arizona
Description

Meteor Crater is the world’s best-preserved, most incredible meteorite impact site on Earth! Located just minutes from Interstate 40 and Route 66 in Northern Arizona near Winslow, Meteor Crater is visited by 250,000 people each year.

Over 50,000 years ago a huge iron-nickel meteorite, approximately 150 feet wide and weighing several hundred thousand tons, impacted an area outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, with a force 150 times greater than an atomic bomb! The result of this impact was devastation for miles and the creation of the giant bowl-shaped cavity we call Meteor Crater, which measures 550 feet deep, almost one mile wide, and 2.4 miles in circumference.

It is an international tourist venue with Outdoor Observation Decks, Guided Rim Tours, Air-Conditioned Indoor Viewing, a 4D Immersive Theater Experience, an 80 Seat Movie Theater, Interactive Discovery Center, Gift & Mineral Shop, and a Visitor Center all located on The Crater's rim. Experience the impact!

Mission

Nestled on its north rim, Meteor Crater Visitor Center is one of the most popular attractions in Northern Arizona.
